The Independent, the i and the Telegraph report on findings from the University of Oxford where a new study has provided insights into gastrulation, one of the early stages of embryo development.

Peter Rugg-Gunn, Group leader in the Epigenetics research programme, commented: “The new study provides a Rosetta Stone for developmental biologists. By analysing an exceptionally rare human embryo at a very early stage of development, the findings allow researchers to translate their results from other experimental systems into a common language. The new study is already yielding important new insights into how the early cell lineages are formed and positioned in the developing embryo.”
